Bankruptcy filings decrease in year ending June 2011

Recent figures from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts reveal that total bankruptcies filed in the U.S. in the year ending June 2011 decreased by 2.7 percent.

In addition, the figures detail the decreases in each individual chapter of bankruptcy.  Chapter 13 bankruptcies declined by the smallest amount  in the year ending June 2011 with a 2 percent decrease.  Chapter 7 filings decreased by 4 percent, Chapter 13 filings decreased by 9 percent, and Chapter 11 filings decreased by 11 percent.

75 out of 94 districts in the U.S. experienced decreases in bankruptcy filings.  Districts that saw increases in bankruptcy filings included the Southern District of Florida and the Central Districts of California and Utah.
