Former NY Knicks point guard’s condo in foreclosure

A property of former NBA star Stephon Marbury in New York City might be lost in a foreclosure due to a debt that has accumulated  since 2010, according to a report published on Wednesday, September 18.

According to the legal documents filed by the U.S. Bank International, the former New York Knicks point guard currently has an unsettled debt of $844,035 on his condo in New York. The bank is now seeking to foreclose Marbury’s property after he has failed to make a payment on his condo since March 2010. Stephon bought the two-bedroom and two-bath property that cost more than $1 million in 2006.

Stephon also had a property in Los Angeles that was foreclosed on last year.

Governor Bentley announces new measure to protect against payday loans

On September 18, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley signed a new consumer protection measure that will help people from taking on exorbitant debts as a result of payday loans.

As the Alabama Deferred Presentment Services Act does not allow payday lenders to give people who already have over $500 in payday loan debt more loans, this new measure from Governor Bentley also helps protect lenders to remain in compliance with state law.

However, there is no existing uniform, state-wide database that ensures both lenders and borrowers will comply. Governor Bentley called for a centralized payday loan database to resolve this problem that hopefully will be operational by January of 2014.

Unfortunately, payday loans and other debts can cause individuals serious financial struggles. If you are in such a situation in Birmingham, talk with an attorney from Greenway Bankruptcy Law, LLC, today about your financial options for getting out of debt.
